A man held a knife to 14 year old boys throat on a preston tram ride and was then seen trying to stab another 14 year old boy on the same ride in Liverpool, police said.

The incident happened on Friday between 16:30 and 17:00 on the preston tram, at Humber area. The victim was riding to work at his home in Merthyr, and his name has not been released because of the fact he is under 16.

It emerged he was held by one of the boys riding in the right hand of the carriage and the other in the left hand, one of the boy's brothers was walking between the two.

The driver of the bus stopped to help the 14-year-old before the knife was recovered and the boys walked away from the carriages and into a nearby garden.

A 15-year-old boy was later arrested. He was later released, while the 14-year-old boy was arrested and taken away on a transport to Wrexham Police station, where he was charged with attempted murder and assault on a boy aged 14 or 15.

The bus was later stopped in the street again, and officers checked the CCTV camera on the bus and found what is believed to have been a second knife nearby in a dark storage room. The victim suffered a stab wound to the neck when the knife was stabbed.

Detective Chief Inspector Jon Murphy, of Liverpool Police's Major Crime Unit, said: "I have spoken to our victims about the incident and to their families to find out what happened.

"A victim's safety and the safety of the other passengers are important considerations to us and we are aware that the 14 year-old's mother and father were on the bus with him and it is my responsibility to support them."

Anyone with information about this incident is asked to contact Liverpool Police on 0161 559 7100.

Us recession fears drag down global stocks, pushing U.S. dollar down against major currencies

By James A. Levey, Robert Stevens, Steven Novey and Richard Cowan

BRUSSELS, July 9 (Reuters) - The outlook for corporate profits in the United States has sunk below its pre-crisis high and corporate net income fell by a fifth to a record low in July, and a sharp fall in oil prices has weighed on overall U.S. growth, according to data on Monday.

The U.S. economy expanded by 1.6 percent in the three months through June, the fourth straight annual contraction, according to the Labor Department.

At a meeting of the Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development in Brussels, economists expect "solid gains in the medium-term" for the U.S. economy, but there is concern that growth in parts of the United States will be flat or worse in the coming months.

The share of world GDP in annual corporate profits fell from 47.1 percent in 2000 to 44.2 percent in 2010, the data showed.

The report showed net income in the United States fell by 0.1 percent last year, the lowest rate since the economy began recovering from the 2001-2007 recession.

It was the third consecutive year of a decline. U.S. corporate net income fell 1.8 percent in 2012 and 2.4 percent in 2011.

Analysts in Brussels say corporate net income as a percentage of gross domestic product, which includes income derived from a wide range of companies, including the private sector, has lost nearly a quarter of its market value since the beginning of the 2008 recession.

They are worried that if corporate profits are expected to grow at an annual rate of just 2.0 percent in the near future, the U.S. economy will need to get much stronger before policymakers raise rates.

One reason, they say, is a sharp drop in commodity prices. U.S. oil prices have dropped nearly 40 percent since the beginning of 2014, and there is widespread concern that the world's largest exporter, Saudi Arabia, is being squeezed by lower demand for gasoline and other goods in part as the price of crude has fallen by half.

With oil plunging as low as $43 a barrel, U.S. energy exports have been squeezed even more as oil demand has fallen.

Oil prices have remained relatively close to their previous all-time low of $34 a barrel in late August, and U.S. crude fell $1.01 a barrel to $34.53 a barrel on Monday.

The data showed net income from corporate profits fell to a $2.5 billion record low in June after a 1 percent yea
